It was a time to be together, to reflect, to mourn, to grow, to connect with the peace and beauty of nature, to feel free and to discover the open road…
On January 31st we began making our way from Shane’s parent’s house to California. We camped and picniced the whole trip, well except when we were spoiled rotten by my aunt and uncle in CA. We made two preliminary stops in TX and then headed for New Mexico, on to Arizona, through Nevada and into California. In CA, the destination of our roadtrip, we spent a week with Anya’s uncle, aunt and new (and one and only) cousin (on her side of the family of course)!
We had big plans for the way back, some different campsites/routes but not far into their trip back, like hours after they left Anya’s unlce’s house, she got a call about a job – yes, she’s got a job! A job as a social worker, working with immigrant youth! But wait what’s that? She can start monday morning!? Well, rather than roll back into town the night before the first day of a new job, they (really Shane) put his foot on the gas and got us back in two days! We did however manage to take the scenic route down hwy 1 and have a brilliant night at joshua tree national park…
